Re: [Activetcl-Dev] ActiveTcl 8.4.14 / 8.5 beta-next
Hello all,
Sorry for the short notice on this one. When I wanted to send this we found
that the previous ActiveTcl-Dev list had been munged together with the regular
ActiveTcl discussion list in a mailman upgrade. :/
We plan to make a release of ActiveTcl available for inclusion on that
conference CD next week. That likely means final builds this weekend. I
believe we have final bits from most people, but let me know if we should
expect any last-minute updates.
In addition to that, we will be doing a soft release of ActiveTcl over the
next (conference) week, as it includes a major new addition - the teapot.
Silly naming decisions aside, this is a package repository managed by
ActiveState. For those familiar with ActivePerl's PPM, it is similar to that.
It will include prebuilt binaries for ActiveTcl supported platforms built upon
the Tcl module (TIP#189 http://tip.tcl.tk/189) system (zip archives are also
possible).
The reason for the soft release is that the conference will provide a venue
for a test run that will (in)validate the basic concept. While I don't expect
it to satisfy everyone, "good enough" is the order of the day so that we
actually have something. We want to make sure that we have at least "good
enough" before we let something out though that might otherwise need major
changes.
Looking forward to seeing those on the list that will be able to make it to
the conference next week. Those who can't - Andreas or I will send out more
information in the next few days about teapot, accessing it, etc.
Regards,
Jeff Hobbs, The Tcl Guy, http://www.ActiveState.com/
