Frankly, I fail to see why this post has generated this sort of hostility.
I note that:
- Commercial posts that are of general interest to the .NET community are
often made to this list - see recent posts by various component makers for
example.
- The archives have examples of other conferences that have been posted
without objection
- The information was reasonably of interest to any .NET developer
- The only description of the list I can find at DM is "dotnet discussion"
- There are no posting guidelines that I could see anywhere at DM
- The post was basically a 4 line *pointer* to a web page that held the
information - many .sigs on this list are longer than Marina's post
I also believe that labeling someone as "a rogue person" is rather childish,
and reflects more on the person making the accusation - especially as I have
met Marina, and she seemed to be just a normal Eiffel developer, not a
"rogue", whatever you meant by that. Unless all Eiffel developers are
rogues, in which case let me know, and I'll update my resume' immediately :)
If you feel like decreeing a posting guideline, great - it's your list
apparently. But in the absence of any such guidelines, I think it's quite
unfair to personally insult people because they didn't accurately read your
mind in order to discern exactly where the foul poles are - especially if
they are following what appears to be acceptable prior behavior on the list.
If you're going to play traffic cop - be fair about it and post the rules,
and enforce them fairly.
And as to the comment about ANN: I suggest you peek through the archives,
where you'll see a large number of announcement postings, some from
commercial companies, none of which seemed to be offensive to you. Perhaps
if you have some spare time, you could publicly flog some of them as well.

I'd rather be Eiffeling...
