How are you "seeing" that the XP DDK is not going to be free anymore?

I think cnet was saying MSDN by year end, launch feb next year, but you can
never believe anything you read in the press as a) they repeat what they
hear b) the misinterpred and c) they like to make a controversy out of every
article to stop it being boring
If you go to the windows catalog under microsoft.com/windowsxp , then look
under dev tools, you can see a list of the skus that vs.net will ship in.
VC++.net standard
VB.net standard
VC#.net standard
plus the bundles of vs.net pro, vs.net enterprise and enterprise git. OK.
the last one is called enterprise architect, but everyone knows that anyone
who calls themsevles an architect is just an developer who cant code anymore
and instead does slideware telling you that you are wrong:-)
So now you can see what the boxes look like, there is a very retro look to
the standard editions. If you follow the manufacture links you end up on the
visual studio pages, which are still trying to ship excess inventory of the
VS.6 package, which should really have a sticker on it like "header files
not up to date with Win2K, let alone XP".
I was about to observe that the fact that you could get find native C++
compiler when you d/led the XP DDK from microsoft.com/hwdev, but now I see
that you are going to have to pay for DDK access again, so that loophole has
been closed.

I was the one, and I stand corrected :-)
No, MS said it would be in the November shipment, and available for download
earlier. I figured out this would mean mid of the month. Actually I think
something like this was in a press release.
