www.python.org is a good start ... It has a number of good links to various
tutorials for different levels ...

I also like the book by Deitel, Python: How to program, Introducing XML 

It is very good general introduction to the basics of the language,
application of Object concepts and cook book recipies on how to do a variety
of mostly web oriented things.
