IIRC the file selection dialogs default to the current working directory,
and the code has changed to actually set it somewhere. Whereas before it
simply used what the OS gave to it. IMHO adding something to the preferences
might be best for your case.

Can you please add this feature request to our (ActiveState's) tracker at
http://bugs.activestate.com/ ?
