I think I've found (and fixed) the problem: There had been introduced
some extra (redundant) error-checking in gtkgui, which caused it to
print error messages when gtkgui wasn't installed. This has now been
removed, and gtkgui should now behave like the other back-ends (i.e.
be silent when it can't be used).

I didn't think this error was present in the released version, but if
you try the current CVS version the problem may not occur. However,
only wxPython can at present be guaranteed with the CVS version. (We
are working on this.)

What back-end are you using (i.e. what GUI toolkit do you have
installed)?

Thanks,

Magnus
