I've seen queries related to this from big company legal departments that vary
based on the cluefulness of the legal group wrt open source software. These
guys look a little less clueful than some. Other requests are generally along
the lines of "can you confirm the license and 'transferability'" (paraphrased)
or sometimes "please make some (semi-)official statement in email that we can
use this stuff". This seems along the lines of the latter, but without
preamble it seems somewhat misguided. They did go through enough effort to
find your name attached somehow.
I think it would be nice to reply with at least an "eh?" to the actual email.
Nothing says we can't educate the lawyers too.
