Komodo 4.2 Updates for Smoother Coding | PHP|Works 2007 Special Offer for Komodo Users
The Komodo Dev Team is thrilled to announce the creation of the Open
Komodo Project, a new initiative to create an open source platform and
promote open standards. The Open Komodo Project will support the open
web and web standards, fill a need for developer tools in the open web
technology stack, and drive further innovation for Komodo IDE and Komodo
Edit.

***********************
Open Web and Open Standards
***********************
ActiveState is joining advocates like Mozilla in promoting the open web.
The open web philosophy aims to maintain the integrity of the web as a
public space that is platform, language, and browser neutral. Open
standards advocate user freedom and choice, encourage decentralization
and community, and ensure the viability of non-proprietary web technologies.

***********************
Open Source and Open Komodo
***********************
Open Komodo is an open-source code base upon which IDE software packages
can be developed. The initial open source code for Open Komodo will be a
portion of ActiveState's Komodo Edit.

The first tool the Open Komodo Project aims to create on the Open Komodo
code base is a full-featured client-side web development tool. Currently
codenamed Komodo Snapdragon, it will be integrated with Firefox and
based on Komodo IDE, and developed in collaboration with the open source
community.

***********************
Komodo Edit and Komodo IDE
***********************
The Open Komodo project is based on Komodo Edit, but not all of the
features of Komodo Edit will open sourced. Komodo Edit will continue to
be available as a free product from ActiveState, and Komodo IDE will
continue to be ActiveState's advanced developer tool and fully-supported
professional integrated development environment.

Join the Open Komodo Project
***********************
In anticipation of the source code release, scheduled for November 2007,
there are other ways you can get involved:

1. Join the mailing list at
http://www.activestate.com/openkomodo/participate and stay up-to-date
with Open Komodo Project news.

2. Use the Komodo Community site forums at
http://community.activestate.com/ to add your feedback, ask questions,
or send us your comments and concerns.

3. Spread the word about the open web.

***********************
These are the highlights; there's much more on the ActiveState website
at http://www.activestate.com/openkomodo, including the mailing list and
project timeline, and the discussion is just getting started over on the
Komodo Community site forums, at http://community.activestate.com.

Thank you for your continued support of ActiveState!

The Komodo Dev Team
