Announcing ASPN Komodo / Komodo 1.0 from ActiveState
I am pleased to announce the availability of ActiveState's Komodo
Integrated Development Environment (IDE) 1.1 Beta 1 release on Windows
and Linux.
The major improvements in this release are of three kinds -- performance
improvements, support for more languages, and much better Linux support.
I) Performance improvements
We identified several performance issues in Komodo 1.0 and addressed
several in this release. This release is based on a recent snappier
version of Mozilla. Furthermore, there are several localized performance
improvements, including reduced installation time and startup time,
improved typing responsiveness and file-switching. The next releases
will continue to improve on those and include improvements in debugger
responsiveness and improved speed of opening new files.
II) Support for more languages
Komodo now has good support for several additional languages:
-- XSLT Debugging - You can view your XSL file, your XML input file, and
your output simultaneously; debug the XSLT process; set breakpoints in
the XSL and in the input file, etc. This release replaces and improves
upon the Komodo/XSLT release. (Windows only for now).
-- PHP Debugging - Komodo now lets you debug PHP files locally or
within a web server environment (Windows only for now).
-- This is the first release with Tcl support, including syntax
coloring, code folding, autocomplete and calltips. a Tcl sample
file in our Sample Project. Komodo does not yet support Tcl debugging.
-- Support for editing of more languages, including Ruby.
III) Much better Linux support
The Linux version is significantly better than any of the previous Linux
Technology Preview releases: we resolved the editor sizing issues and
portability of Perl debugging and the Rx Toolkit across Linux
platforms. We feel confident to call this Linux release a Beta. We plan
to have a general availability release for Linux soon.
Information about the release, where to download etc., is available
from:

Some important notes:
1) The Windows and Linux versions have several known bugs and other
issues, as documented in the release notes.
2) We have included a Beta license with the installer so you do not
need a license key from ASPN.
3) This mailing list is an announcement only mailing list. We invite
you to join the mailing list for discussing Komodo. To join, go to:
