Heh. I tried that too, got the prompt to shutdown the running Komodo (as
you did), did that and proceeded with the install. However, the new
installation *worked* for me after that. I'm quite willing to believe
that while the install worked for me and not for you that this could be
the culprit -- I've had enough problems with slow NTFS (after long use
without a clean re-formatting) to accept stuff like this.

I've started http://bugs.activestate.com/show_bug.cgi?id=77045 to at
least have the installer warning about overwrites like this. However,
yes, that is a good suggestion.
I have some musing on this here:

Interested to know if that plan sounds reasonable to some or if there
are surprises lurking in that plan.
