Re: [Komodo-discuss] MSWIN: Multiple instances | RE: [Komodo-discuss] Suggestions
Greetings,

I really respect the work being done by ActiveState. I have enjoyed using
the Komodo environment for the last few months and plan to introduce it into
my company in the future. Creating a cross-language, cross-platform
development environment is a huge undertaking and getting it to function
consistently on the various OS's must present many challenges. I tip my hat
to the team.

I've compiled a list of quirks and suggestions for improvement that would
(IMHO) make Komodo even more enjoyable to use. Some of these may already be
possible using commands or hacks and I just don't know. I do keep finding
new little nuggets of functionality the more I use it :)

==Komodo personal, version 3.1.0, build 129438, platform win32-ix86.==

I'd be more than happy to expand on any of these if more information is
needed:

1) Multimon / Dual-head support. Komodo certainly isn't the only
application that suffers this fate but it is an added annoyance. When using
2 monitors, menu options and some windows will appear on the wrong monitor.
I understand this may be a limitation of the underlying windowing toolkit or
the Mozilla stuff but any improvements would help.

2) In the code window, I have a pixel-or-two wide vertical line in column
81.

3) I'd like to see support for workspaces or solutions - a way to associate
multiple projects together so that they could all be loaded at the same
time.

4) Options to customize the contents of the start page - ex. how many items
in the recent projects/files/(and workspaces!) list.

5) The Python interpreter seems to crash frequently when I try to mouseover
variables in the code window. Also it seems to terminate sometimes when the
debugger has been in break mode for a period of time (like 30 seconds or a
minute)

6) An option to change the font and font size in the projects view window.

7) An option to show the language-specific icon for files in the project
view.

8) When you mouseover variables in the inspection windows, the tooltip
window containing the variable contents shows '...' if the contents are too
long. It would be nice to have an option to configure the dimensions of the
tooltip window to be able to show more contents.

9) Dynamically editing variables in the variables window usually doesn't
work for me.

10) Would be nice to have an option to automatically add newly saved files
to the current project.

11) PHP file - incorrect syntax highlighting:
	define ( 'CONSTANT' , 'const' );
	$str = CONSTANT.'string';

	The '.' operator will not be colored as an operator.

12) I'd like to see some other package deals. I use PHP for most of my
professional development. One of the only things keeping me from Zend
Studio is that I also use Python for a variety of tasks and I like being
able to work out of the same environment for both. Plus as a Python editor
Komodo is does just as well as most offerings I've seen. I actually don't
use Perl at all but I'd like to have access to some of the deals like the
ActivePerl bundle.

Cheers,
Brian Luft
