ActiveState Supports New Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP)
Program:
Innovative marketing and licensing facilitates outreach to millions of
programmers
VANCOUVER, BC - July 29, 2003 - ActiveState, the leader in professional
programming tools for open source developers, today announces its
participation in the new Microsoft Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP)
program. The VSIP program provides ActiveState with deep technical and
marketing resources for its Visual Perl, Visual Python, and Visual XSLT
plug-ins. These productivity tools for Perl, Python, and XSLT offer
powerful, language-specific features within the familiar Visual Studio
.NET 2003 environment, supplying ease of use and accelerated development
cycles to programmers.
The VSIP program enabled ActiveState to deliver some of the first Visual
Studio .NET plug-ins in December 2000. Customer endorsement has been
extremely strong, with ActiveState supplying tens of thousands of
downloads since the launch. With the new program's enhanced licensing
and co-marketing opportunities, ActiveState will increase visibility and
product adoption with the millions of Visual Studio .NET 2003
developers.
Programmer enthusiasm is reflected in the words of Don Box, editor of
GotDotNet, and prominent XSLT developer, architect, and educator. Says
Box, "Visual XSLT rocks! After spending over an hour fighting a bug in
XSLT, I finally gave up and downloaded the plug-in. I was totally blown
away. The ability to use the Visual Studio .NET 2003 debugging shell
was nice, but the fact that the debugger not only kept track of the
current line in the XSLT, but also the context node from the source
document, was exceptionally cool. Naturally, I found the bug within
five minutes."
"The combination of broad, affordable marketing programs, with essential
technology, great documentation, and excellent support, made the initial
roll-out of our plug-ins very smooth," said Matt Herdon, Director of
Product Management, Tools and Languages, ActiveState. "The new program
offers even better flexibility and value, and we're really looking
forward to participating."
"Microsoft is excited to offer these expanded marketing opportunities
and the continued deep technical information and support to our partners
through the new VSIP program," said Susanne Peterson, director for the
Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "This
program will enable our industry partners to deliver benefits and
productivity increases to our mutual customers."
Visual Perl, Visual Python, and Visual XSLT are included in the
value-priced bundle: ActiveState Open Source Language Suite for Visual
Studio .NET, for $495. The three plug-ins, as well as the Perl Dev Kit
and Perl ASPX, are also available individually. Free, 21-day trial
licenses; educational licenses, and more information are at:
