ActiveState Releases First Professional IDE for Open Source Programming
Languages on Solaris:
Komodo IDE for Perl, PHP, Python, Tcl, & XSLT at SunNetwork Conference
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - September 17 - ActiveState, the leader in
programming tools for open source developers and anti-spam software for
enterprises, today announced at the SunNetwork Conference the release of
Komodo 2.5 for Linux, Solaris, and Windows. Komodo's new
enterprise-grade performance, multi-platform support, and comprehensive
feature set enable greater developer productivity for building and
deploying applications with Perl, PHP, Python, Tcl, and XSLT.
Komodo by ActiveState provides a powerful workspace for editing,
debugging, and testing applications. Komodo offers advanced support for
Perl, PHP, Python, Tcl, and XSLT, and runs on Linux, Solaris, and
Windows. Komodo offers a language-aware editor with features such as
background syntax-checking and autocompletion; an easy-to-use, yet
powerful debugger; source code control integration; CGI emulation;
templates, and visual UI builder.
"I needed a fast and easy IDE for my development work at the University
of Minnesota. I tried several editors and found Komodo to be the best by
far," says Alex Jokela, software developer, University of Minnesota,
Duluth. "The PHP syntax checking is helpful and the performance is
great. Komodo is the best code editor I have ever used."
"We use Komodo as an integral part of our software engineering
environment. The combination of Komodo's cross-platform availability,
remote debugging capability, and multiple programming language support
makes it indispensable," said Kean Stump, senior software engineer,
Credence Systems Corporation.
What's New in Komodo 2.5:
* Solaris 2.6+ support
* Major performance enhancements
* Many user interface refinements
* HTML preview for side-by-side viewing and automatic updating
* Templates use same syntax as snippets and run commands
* Font customization dialog permits 'schemes' to be saved
"A Solaris port has been in demand by our enterprise customers since we
first shipped Komodo in 2000," said Matt Herdon, tools and languages
product manager, ActiveState. "Solaris is the operating system of
choice in many industries, and Komodo's award-winning toolset will be a
boon to Solaris developers who want a professional IDE for their open
source language work."
Komodo for Solaris is covered under the existing Komodo license, which
allows individual programmers to install Komodo on any system or
platform for their use, at no additional cost. New licenses for Komodo
2.5 Professional Edition, featuring source code control, Visual Package
Manager, and ActiveState GUI Builder, for commercial use, are $295.
Upgrades are free for 2.x versions, and $99.95 for users of version 1.x.
Licenses for Komodo 2.5 Personal Edition, for educational or
non-commercial use, are $29.95. More details are available at:
