What exactly is Darwin?

You really should have bumped up the coolness meter...
Seriously, this is a shame but it accurately represents what I and I
believe many feel is the inconsistent, to put it politely,
relationship between Apple and the open source community a whole.
I've heard and participated in the "we should be grateful!" vs. "they
should be more grateful!" debate over the years and it sounds like
one side has run out of breath given the effort required to navigate
Apple's open source house of mirrors.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the Open Darwin projects
as they are all greatly under-appreciated.
Good work,
Michael.
