"Darwin" has always referred to either one of a) Apple's open source  
efforts in their entirety, or b) a standalone open source operating  
system similar to Mac OS X.  It's never been used (by Apple) to refer  
specifically to the kernel.

It's the same kernel that comes with new Mac Pro.  It's not the same  
kernel that's on existing iMac, MacBooks, or MacBook Pros -- which is  
why there are some updated kernel extensions that are also required  
on those systems.
