Re: [PDK-Beta] Initial impressions
I've received some feedback from one beta tester over the phone. I've
summarized it below in case anyone else wants to comment on it, agree or
disagree with it etc. :)
We'll be adding these suggestions to the bug database in the next few
days as well.
* There should be a better tie-in between the actual commandline option
name and the description of the option in the GUI. For example
"Overwrite executable if already exists" should also mention that this
is the --force option.
* On the Files tab it was not obvious that clicking on the filenames
brings up the useful information on the right pane. Just clicking on
the '+'s and '-'s doesn't change the right pane.
* The different types of icons in the Files tree are not obvious.
Baloon help could explain e.g. what cycles are etc.
* It is confusing to have the option to modify the number of context
lines up in the "View" menu. There should be a control/widget in the
right pane itself to expand/contract the amount of context visible.
* There are no line numbers when the file is displayed in a new window
(e.g. by clicking on the file name hyperlink). This makes is hard to
navigate to the same spot as is shown in the right pane (where there are
line numbers).
* The UI should show the sizes of the files to tell the user how much
space would be saved by eliminating the module.
* The right pane in the Files tab says: "This file is referenced by:
...", but when you click on any of those modules, you don't get to see
*why* they are included in the program.
* The right pane description for "Added modules" says "... can be added
here." but you actually have to right click in the left pane and not
"here" to bring up the dialog.
* When the tree is collapsed, there is no more visual indicator to show
the connection between the left and the right pane.
* It would be nice to have the "PerlApp commandline" text area visible
on *each* tab. That way it would always be obvious how changing an
option in the GUI changes the commandline.
Cheers,
-Jan
