[PDK-Beta] Filter_Build Alpha1 | [PDK-Beta] RE: Filter_Build Alpha1 available for download
Hello there,

I hope you all had a nice Canada Day or Independence Day for those of
you living in the corresponding countries!

We have uploaded another PDK tool to the PDK-Beta FTP site:

    ftp://pdkbeta:grett0uf@ftp.activestate.com/Filter-Builder-Alpha1.zip

It is based on an idea we have been kicking around for a while
internally: Perl is very nice for building one-liner filter programs on
the commandline, but you often end up going through multiple iterations
until your filter works quite right. We want to create a tool that
allows interactive development of these filter scripts with immediate
visual feedback.

The Filter Builder tool is our latest prototype for this functionality.
We are interested to learn if you would find such a tool useful? What
would you be using it for? What features would need to be added to make
it do the things you would like to do, but can't?

In case you don't read the included documentation, please make sure you
install the Set::IntSpan module into your Perl installation:

    ppm install Set-IntSpan

Otherwise the replace operations won't work.

And if you *do* read the documentation (it is really just a README/Known
Issues document), please ignore the comment about $1, $2 etc. not being
supported (in the HTML version only). This is no longer true and these
variables are supported in Alpha1.

The Alpha1 ZIP file only contains a Windows binary, but we do plan
to eventually make the tool available for all supported PDK
platforms. Please let me know if you want to test the Alpha on one
of the Unix versions instead and I'll try to build an Alpha package
for that one as well.

As usual, we are very interested to hear what you think about this
tool / idea!

Cheers,
-Jan
