You do have the freedom to compile ActivePerl from source however you
want to, but it not prudent to expect that the PDK tools will work with
your Perl unless you use exactly the same build options as we do.  The
C code in the PDK tools must be compiled with the same options as well,
so some things are simply not re-configurable (e.g. the option to use
ITHREADS, or the size of IVs etc).

Please note that ActivePerl also contains various other parts (additional
modules in the ActivePerl::* and ActiveState::* namespaces, PPM, plugins
for IIS) that you don't get when you compile it yourself from source.
