RE: Windows installer woes
www.funduc.com distributes Registry toolkit - this is registry
editor with FInd/REplace feature.
Try it to trace a partial string such as "msi".
Run cmd-> net start to see whether msi was setup as service "net
stop" it

I believe I have cleaned the registry of the AS entries. I looked under
HKLM/Software and HKCU/Software for it, is there anywhere else, like
HKCR??

Try this: Clean up from the registry all traces of PDK 4.0/3.0 ... , Clear
all directories of previous installations and then after reBooting,
reinstall, reBoot, try running. (OK! Ok! your problem comes by the time
you are in the installation)... My guess is the cleanup utility would do
that only.
Caution!! Take a copy of Registry and store it away before tinkering with
it.
