Someone please put this into some sort of archival record. Pierre has  
gone on record saying that "nothing is black and white".

As for the solutions being "rejected" it's mainly because the  
developer appears to be against using optional dependencies or upping  
his PHP dependency. This is *exactly* what optional dependencies are  
for "If you want to use this feature of this package under this  
environment then you're gonna need these other packages".
