[Announce] : DBD::Progress - Expressions of Interest | Windows2000 DBD::Oracle link problem
As far as DBI being ported to most platform, that is true, and with no major
problems in my experience. You might though see some (minor) changes that
are needed if you decide to switch databases. Mostly no changes are
required, but some database specific issues might arrise. I have an
application that is on a Unix server, which interacts with Oracle. But I
also keep an exact copy on my win32 machine. I use DBD:Oracle from Unix to
connect, but on win32 I use ODBC. All I have to do is change the connect
from dbi:Oracle to dbi:ODBC and everything else functions exactly the same.
With DBI you might encounter some (hopefully none) problems with database
specific question, but as far as the platform, you should if you installed
and configured correctly on that platform.

Subject: cross platform code (DBI newbie)

hi all,

I've gotta start writing a suite of Perl DBI scipts that will work on as
many platforms as possible with as few porting hassles as possible. I
realise that's what the DBI is for, but in Real Life, are there any major
issues I should be aware of b4 starting this (rather big) project.

I had a quick scan of the FAQ and am trawling through the Perl DBI book,
but if anyone has any personal thoghts, or if a porting FAQ exists, I'd
love to know about it :)

thanks

cLive ;-)
