Perl 5 Bug Summary | Re: .e2x files

I'm busy pruning out unneeded bits from perl (e.g README and Changes files), 
and I'm wondering about the .e2x files under lib/Encode.  Am I correct in 
assuming they are template files used by enc2xs, and are therefore required?
