[PHP-QA] [aspell-devel] [aspell-announce] Administrative Changes Due to the Release of GNU Aspell 0.50 (fwd)

[PHP-QA] Re: [PHP-DEV] PHP 4.2.3 RC1 rolled | [PHP-QA] Re: [PHP-CVS] cvs: php4(PHP_4_2_0) /ext/exif exif.c /ext/exif/tests 002.phpt
Heads up!

I have tested compilation with php for my platforms, up to the last
snapshot (not the final yet) and it is working, but compilation of this
pspell/aspell library relies on solid C++ support, meaning:
-- libtool 1.4e (CVS) is needed to compile it and get a C API, without
having to link stdc++.
-- does not work or is remotely compilable on win32

Additionally:
-- maintainer email has changed
-- download location has changed
-- still a mix-up with Savannah/Sourceforge
-- old pspell is dead.

This needs solid QA, especially since it's now got GNU attached to it,
which will also provide some marketing...

To eliminate all confusion, I think the aspell extension should be nuked
in 4.3 and 'severely deprecated' in 4.2.3.

Additionally an alias '--with-new-aspell' should map to --with-pspell, and
introduced in 4.2.3, so people can get used to it.

What should happen to function names, is another interesting topic...

Resent-Subject: [aspell-devel] [aspell-announce] Administrative Changes Due
to the Release of GNU Aspell 0.50

Due to the release of GNU Aspell 0.50 please note the following changes:

*) My new email address is kevina@[...].org.

*) All user related questions for Aspell should go to aspell-user@[...].org.
Aspell-devel should only be used to discuss the actual development of
   Aspell.

*) The aspell-user list at sourceforge is no longer to be used. Please
use the new aspell-user lists at gnu.org.

*) All bug report, patches, and feature requests, should use the
Sourceforge tools instead of the ones on Savannah. The Savannah
tools lack some key features that I need.

*) The old Aspell/Pspell combination is now considered completely dead by
me. Do not expect any support on them from me. Any bug reports,
etc on the old Aspell/Pspell will be deleted.

*) The new download site for GNU Aspell is ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/

Thank you,
Kevin Atkinson
The sole Aspell Maintainer
