Re: new PPM-Make package available | Re: Can't get ppm to install anything - One Step ahead
I've uploaded to CPAN a new version (0.66) of PPM-Make, a
module to make a ppm package from a CPAN distribution.
There's also Win32 ppm packages of this available at
http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/, for ActicePerl 8xx, and
http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppmpackages/, for ActivePerl
6xx. As well as a few bug fixes, and some minor enhancements
(including support for packages using Module-Build), this
version has support for installing the built ppm package via
the ppm utility. One can also (through a configured CPAN.pm
module) specify a package to build/install by a module name,
rather than just the CPAN distribution name.

Three helper scripts are included - make_ppm and
ppm_install, which are command-line tools for building and
installing packages, and tk-ppm, a Tk-based interface for
searching and installing packages. This latter one is
work-in-progress - in the future, I'd like to add more
integration with CPAN, so that one could search for a
package and, if it's not in a repository, go off to CPAN
and, if it's there, fetch and build it. I'd also like to get
rid of the CPAN.pm dependency as a front end to the CPAN
indices, and instead, use SOAP-Lite to forward such queries
to the database we use for a CPAN search utility.

Please let me know if you find bugs and/or have any
suggestions for improvements. Thanks.
