I thought it was better than that ... but now that I check I find you're
right. The improvement in the actual case I was looking at is only 15% - and
the best I could quickly find is 25%.
Whilst that's measurable, the validity of the term "significant" could be
argued :-)

A couple of weeks back I was able to upload a 5.2 megabyte file (which I
have since been deleted), but now I cannot upload a 5.7 megabyte file. I get
an error message that a quota has been exceeded. I don't know what "quota"
that is, and I've sent an email off to try and establish precisely what
"quota" has been exceeded. (I certainly haven't exceeded the storage space
allocated to me.)

So whether that would, in fact, solve my problem is currently an unknown.
However, I think that "every little bit helps", and that if PPM can be
readily made to accommodate the 'tar.bz2' format, then that might not be
such a bad idea.

Where do I find the current PPM source ? (I ask in case I *do* decide to
submit a patch.)
