Sometime ago I posted some alpha code to talk to a Eurotherm
Oven Chamber controller using a serial link on c.l.p.
It was developed and used from a Unix box, but SHOULD work
the same from a Windows box. I've never really played with 
the serial port using Windows and Python together so I can't 
tell you for sure.

   search 'yaipa Eurotherm' and limit it to c.l.p
