[Pythoncard-users] Just Saying Hi *repost*

Re: [Pythoncard-users] persistent problem with mailing lists
Thanks for the comments. With regards to Delphi, you might want to check out
Boa for wxPython, since it is closely modeled after Delphi and you might
feel more at home with it. Riaan will be releasing 0.2 later this week or
you can check it out from cvs, which is the preferred way of using Boa since
Riaan makes changes often, but releases seldom. ;-)

PythonCard will likely never have the more elaborate project-oriented
environment of Delphi, but certainly as PythonCard gets more of an IDE it
will share similar features to Boa, Delphi, and other IDEs. Depending on the
types of apps you expect to build, you may want to use Boa and PythonCard.

Subject: [Pythoncard-users] Just Saying Hi *repost*
Apologies if this message is seen twice, I had problems with my SMTP
server.
Hi Kevin and everyone else. Just thought I'd surface after a good while
in stealth mode and introduce myself.
I've been following PythonCard with great interest over it's rapid
development. So far I've just been toying with it. I come to Python Card
after a solid grounding in Windows development using Delphi. Before that I
was primarily a Clipper developer, so I've seen my share of things come and
go. I started using Python a couple of years ago after becoming increasingly
frustrated with learning PERL with the aim of using it for creating CGI
stuff on the web. I found Python
and the rest as they say is history. I've now developed a nice web
administration system in Python called Web@Work, with which I administer
my website and also my clients websites. I've found using Python has in fact
helped in my understanding of programming in general as well as my ability
to grasp new concepts. I love Delphi, but get the feeling it's cornering
itself into oblivion, both in price and feature bloat. Anyway I digress.
My plans with PythonCard and Python itself are as an alternative to
Delphi, enabling me to develop cross platform software and to lessen my
reliance on a development system that seems to be fading fast. I remember
jumping ship many moons ago, when I primarily developed in Clipper. It took
quite a while to lean Delphi to a degree when I felt I was able to offer
customers viable Windows solutions.
What I'm after in PythonCard, in the long run at least is something akin
to Delphi. I realise this is an ambitious goal, but I can dream can't I :-)
I still need to sit down seriously with PythonCard, but the examples have
given me a good idea of what's possible and I love what I see.
Not really sure what I can offer back, other than continued support and
some currently lacking feedback. I'll also hopefully offer some small
programs for inclusion as examples, if I can knock something up, I think
will be useful.
Sorry if this seems a bit of a rant, but as per Kevin's request via the
poll, I thought I'd share my views and experiences and hope to generate some
conversation.
Keep up the excellent work.
