This change sounds good to me, and I agree that a single, shared Python 
is necessary.  I have access to machines running two distributions at 
the moment, Debian 3.1 and Fedora Core 3, and both have shared Python 
builds.  And the product in which I use PyXPCOM ships with its own 
Python build anyway, so as not to require the user to install a certain 
version of Python.  So you have my vote.
