? I don't recall that, \r and \n handling are there from the start, and 
might someday (unlikely, I know) be revived. Or somebody might want to 
reuse this library in some other context.
Of course, the above limitation should be documented in the source. Or 
might be? the issue is external to the library, more on the way it is 
called.
