I decided not announce on scipy-dev because I'm not a scipy user yet.
For the last month I've been porting all my MATLAB code written last
year to Numeric Python and I'm still seting up a familiar environment.

I did download CVS scipy though, mostly to study Travis Oliphant work on
sparse matrices. I must say that I find the scipy project most
interesting and I plan to use it more in the future (therefore having
subscribed to both sci-user and sci-dev lists, but and the moment I'm
still striving to get all my code at the point it was with MATLAB.

If there is insterest in a future inclusion of ARPACK in scipy I'll be
glad to help. Also concerning sparse matrices, I'm also writting
bindings for UMFPACK 4.0 (sparse matrices LU factorization) and for the
NIST Sparse BLAS Toolkit (for sparse matrices mat-mat and mat-vec
operations), with the same ideals used on ARPACK binding (i.e., focusing
on matching the feature of package rather than be user-friendly).
