[Tcl-announce] Tcl-URL! - weekly Tcl news and links (Jul 15) | [Tcl-announce] Tcl'2009 email id for information
QOTW: "Every time I use my company's Wiki, I realise how easy it is to use
the Tclers' Wiki ...." - Arjen Markus

Harald Oehlmann leads us to BWidget 1.9:
	http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=4A4B7A54.80204%40Elmicron.de&forum
_name=tcllib-devel

In our (successful!) attempts to be lightweight and flexible with
Tcl, we occasionally lose track of how packages look when a newcomer
first opens the wrapping. JMN and Larry Virden give the essential
advice on how to make "package register $desired_package" work for
    tcom:
	http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/browse_thread/thread/7b247b1203ff6704

Little improvements or implementations in Tcl can enormously benefit
EDA or other applications which expose Tcl as a scripting interface:
	http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/browse_thread/thread/37fa5d05f07c12be
The same thread, incidentally, mentions aids to work with regexps.

    1.0b12 of TDBC:
	http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/browse_thread/thread/9b4ffc3cd6c38903/b2447580
12664683

Not only is WS::Client correct and useful for Web Service workers, but
its support is swift and helpful:

Thanks to Arjen Markus for his (mostly) weekly summary of Wiki action:
As you will probably have noticed: the deadline for the Sixteenth
Annual Tcl/Tk Conference is approaching. So: time to finish that
  abstract and send it off!

  Last year's ...
  - Wiki gnoming has brought up a lot of older pages, such the
presentations from last year's conference: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/21794>
is a presentation on an anatomical atlas.

  - Using Tcl to define a domain-specific language was amply discussed
    in this talk: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/21801>

  - Solving ordinary differential equations using Tcl and a nice
little extension is so much easier now that it has found its
    way into ActiveState's teacup - <http://wiki.tcl.tk/22633>

  Things Tk
  - Here is a widget to view web pages that has a long history:

  - Here is a way to embed Windows Vista stuff in Tk:
    <http://wiki.tcl.tk/23385>

  - Here is one of the many file managers written in Tcl/Tk:
    <http://wiki.tcl.tk/7772>

  - Here is a visualisation of computations, using the standard
    canvas: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/22564>

  Tools, techniques, Tcl
  - Want to run a program that was packaged with a starpack?
Here is a useful little helper script: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/23882>

  - Illustrating hash tables, just pure Tcl: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/22017>

  - A set of tools for your toolchest: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/22622> ,
    courtesy of Flightaware.

  - How to program a wide variety of tasks in Tcl and compare them
to the solutions in other languages ... Quite illustrative:
    <http://wiki.tcl.tk/23885>

Everything Tcl-related you want is probably one or two clicks away in these
pages:
The "Welcome to comp.lang.tcl" message by Andreas Kupries
        http://www.purl.org/net/tcl-welcome
comp.lang.tcl is a crucial resource for Tcl practitioners.
An interesting perspective on its traffic appears at
        http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.tcl/about

The Tcl Developer Site is Tcl's "home base".
	http://www.tcl.tk

Larry Virden maintains a comp.lang.tcl FAQ launcher.
        http://www.purl.org/NET/Tcl-FAQ/

Tcl Developer Xchange sponsor, ActiveState, keeps info to
onvince your boss Tcl is a good thing
        http://www.tcl.tk/scripting/

The Tcl'ers Wiki is a huge, dynamic, collaboratively edited repository
of documentation, examples, tutorials and pontifications on all things
    Tcl.
        http://wiki.tcl.tk/0
For the ideal overview of the topics about Tcl most likely to
interest a newcomer, see "Arts and Crafts ..."
        http://wiki.tcl.tk/969
    There's also a high-quality Wikibook on Tcl:
        http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Programming:Tcl

ActiveState maintains binaries distribution and development tools
        http://www.activestate.com/Tcl
along with a Cookbook of Tcl recipes
        http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Cookbook/Tcl

"La Gazette du Técleux" is an important monthly publication.
	http://wfr.tcl.tk/1159

deli.cio.us presents an intriguing approach to reference commentary.
It already aggregates quite a bit of Tcl intelligence.
        http://del.icio.us/tag/tcl

Cameron Laird tracks several Tcl/Tk references of interest (but
needs to validate many of the links).
        http://phaseit.net/claird/comp.lang.tcl/

Years ago, Cetus Links maintained a Tcl/Tk page with verified links
        http://www.cetus-links.org/oo_tcl_tk.html

    "Yahoo! Groups" archives comp.lang.tcl.announce posts--even
    though clta itself is dormant.
        http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tcl_announce/

We're working on more useful archives of past installments. Dave
Williams generously is building up
    http://www.bacomatic.org/~dw/comp/tclurl/index.htm
and of course Google gives us
  http://groups.google.com/groups?oi=djq&as_q=+Tcl-URL&as_ugroup=comp.lang.tcl

Suggestions/corrections for next week's posting are always welcome.
