This has been a complete proposal for a long time now.
I recently modified the semantics of the -error flag
a bit to make it more general and make use of the new
return options in 8.5, but otherwise nothing is new.

I still think this is a good idea.  Browsing archives I can't see
any comments to this one, so I don't know how it is viewed.


TIP #313: Inexact Searching in Sorted List

I changed the spec to make the new flag a modifier to -sorted,
as mentioned earlier in the discussions.
The name of the flag is still open.  I don't really care, so I'd
leave it up to any sponsoring TCT member.
