I DO think that they need to be platform specific, but the entire thing 
does not -- figuring out what modules need to be included is exactly the 
same on all platforms -- why have multiple *half-baked* implementations 
of that?

I also don't see any reason they couldn't have the same API.

Actually bundling up the stuff certainly has to be platform dependent.
