Yes, and at that point, all you are doing is 
assembling parts.

If we talk about a "web architecture", are 
we just reengineering a web browser, or are
we talking about something else?

The very succint last sentence is the problem... once you start talking about HTTP+XML+MIME+
xxxx, it is at least precise enough to discuss.

FWIW. I've noticed the same trend you noticed: fewer and fewer "normal" folk even talk about
 "the web". To them, as you say, it's "the internet". Not one "normal" person has mentioned 
XML to me....
