That's a bit fast on the draw, Leigh.  Perhaps some review of 
that Herzog thesis is in order.

Are you sure REST doesn't fall apart in other models of hypermedia frameworks, 
or sure we need those frameworks? Distributed hypermedia 
starts with Engelbart, not Fielding.  From those requirements to the contrast 
of the Dexter Model to the WWW, one should be aware that there 
really are alternatives.  IOW, there might be new requirements or 
more efficient answers.  We don't know and no one has proved 
the case because unless I miss my guess, there are multiple 
cases here and "the Web" may not be the only or best solution 
for building applications on the Internet.

This would be fine, IFF, the requirements had changed. Personally I don't see 
anything in web services that requires new technologies, or fundamental reworkings 
other than the possibility to make someone a lot of money.
