Every XSLT processor has its own set of extensions, and its own mechanisms
to allow users to define extensions. By definition, these are not
standardised. However, there has been a tendency for each implementation to
copy the extensions provided by others: those available in Xalan are pretty
well a subset of those in Saxon, which led the way on many of the popular
extensions like multiple output files and xx:evaluate(); and there is also a
third-party library of portable extensions provided at www.exslt.org.
